Bloor Homes initially intended to use Calor Gas with communal storage tanks, as this had worked on a previous site. However, the Highways Authority/ Leicestershire County Council, would not allow Calor pipes beneath adoptable roads.
As a business it is their default position to put the roads forward for adoption and therefore the option of a private road was not acceptable. Oil heating was rejected as the tanks would be very prominent in the gardens of all the properties.
Therefore, with an eye on the Future Homes Standard (FHS), they decided to look at Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs). The developer selected an ASHP where the flow temperature they offered for the central heating water was closer to a gas fired system.
The primary concern was to make sure that the homes were sufficiently warm.
