Call for entries: Showcase Small Interventions - Big Impact

The Future Homes Conference 2024 is back on 4th December 2024 to take stock of how the sector can work together to build high-quality sustainable homes at the scale the country needs - reviewing progress, challenges, and solutions.

The agenda includes plenaries from industry experts and interactive breakout sessions covering topics such as the Future Homes Standard, embodied carbon and nature recovery. This year the agenda will include a Small Interventions: Big Impact slot, where developers, designers, manufacturers and specialists will have the opportunity to showcase ideas for small interventions that the sector can deliver to create positive outcomes, accelerating the journey to the Net Zero sector plan.

We are calling on you to submit your ideas, to be in with a chance to be one of four companies chosen to present in this session at the Conference.

Showcase brief

The showcase aims to address the sector's roadmap to Net Zero by encouraging small interventions developers can make to positively impact sustainable outcomes. Participants are invited to submit their ideas for small interventions, which will be selected by the Future Homes Hub’s Sustainability and Performance Liaison Group. Selected companies will be invited to present their idea in the format of a 5-minute pitch at the Future Homes Hub Conference to industry leaders. The showcase is for innovative ideas, from low-carbon product specifications to material reuse schemes. The emphasis is on small and practical ideas that the sector can implement at scale to have a significant environmental impact for the sector.

Criteria

Innovativeness: A new idea, a simple change of process or the promotion of a new scheme to improve sustainable outcomes

 Further considerations

  • Proposals should not be designed to promote one particular company or product. Examples of organisations that can provide this service can be given, but it is better to explain the offering and the type of business that can support it.
  • Ideas should be innovative or not widely known. A generic improvement over-regulation (for example, increasing u-values) is not that exciting, but an emerging product type, technology, process, or design to deliver the gain is.
  • Remember that we are focussed on residential construction, so suggestions should be compatible with typical house and apartment developments.

Format

Submissions are to be in PDF format. A maximum 300-word pitch for your idea; images are welcome but not required. If selected, you will be invited to prepare a presentation to showcase your idea at the Future Homes Hub Conference; it should last 5 minutes, be in person and at least one slide is required to demonstrate your idea.

Submission

All entries are to be submitted via email to admin@futurehomes.org.uk. All entrants will be responded to after submission selection on the 31st of October 2024.
