Provide on-site photo evidence of your build

Updated: 26 June 2022

Find out about how to use photos to prove each new home meets new building regulations.

  • You must take on-site photos if building in England under new regulations which came into force on 15 June 2022
  • Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are introducing their own changes.

Take digital photos

You must take a series of photos for each new home on a development to record their construction.

Anyone can take the photographs but they must be digital with geolocation enabled to confirm the location, date and time of each image.

All photos must be made available to local building control and your SAP assessor.

You must make sure each photo is of sufficient quality and high enough resolution so building features can be checked. Take photos of required details and construction stages and give each one a unique file name.

Find out what photos you need to take using Appendix B of Approved Document L.
