What is the webinar about?


Join us for an informative webinar on delivering certified Passivhaus new builds   in the UK.  The session will cover insights from experienced professionals on the full process of certifying new homes to Passivhaus standards, including practical approaches to managing costs, optimising quality, and achieving collaborative outcomes. Attendees will gain first-hand tips on project delivery, contract management, and overcoming challenges in building energy-efficient, high-performance homes, as well as examples of innovative projects that showcase the potential of Passivhaus design.


What will you learn?


  • Tomas will share his knowledge on new build Passivhaus schemes learnt from over 15 years in the UK, working on fully certified Passivhaus projects primarily for Exeter City Council, mainly housing but also including St Sidwells point, the 3rd swimming pool in the world to be Passivhaus certified. Tomas will share his expertise on the process of how to certify New Build homes.


  • Mike will share his knowledge on how to deliver quality certified Passivhaus homes at sensible costs based on knowledge learnt at the coal face! Also hints & tips on how to manage the bill of quantities & contract to obtain a good collaborative outcome.

TOMAS GAERTNER

RIBA Architect / Director of SE3Design / Passivhaus Certifier

Tomas Gaertner is an RIBA chartered architect and Passivhaus Certifier accredited with the Passivhaus Institute in Germany, specialising in healthy, high performance design. As a certified Building Biology Consultant IBN and Passivhaus Designer CEPH he works collaboratively with design teams across the UK, helping to successfully deliver multi residential, offices, schools, higher education, buildings for worship, fire stations, care homes, swimming pool and leisure building projects.


As an architect he understands the complex challenges of designing buildings and their cultural, emotional and social importance for creating successful, sustainable and healthy places for humans to strive. As a Passivhaus certifier and designer he can bring low energy, high performance technical expertise paired with in-depth detailing skills, knowledge of UK construction techniques and legislation to every project.


He is a regular speaker at conferences like the International Passivhaus conference, PH Trust conference and Future build and has been working regularly with the Green Register and the RIBA to deliver sustainability seminars on their Core CPD programme since 2018. He is a chartered member of the RIBA and ARB, Certified Building Biologist IBN, experienced Passivhaus designer and accredited Passivhaus Certifier.

Mike Webb

Mike Webb is the managing director of a small property development company that specialises in Certified Passivhaus builds since 2015. Prior to this Mike had an MCS accredited Solar panel installation company & his company has installed over 350 schemes making “Electricity from the Sun”. In 2015 he realised we just need to build better to waste less energy & concluded the answer was Passivhaus. Having met Tomas Gaertner who simplifies the Passivhaus system, Mike retrained to become a Certified Passivhaus consultant & then borrowed c £3 million to build the award-winning Seaton Beach apartments building, the first multiblock in the UK to be certified as Passivhaus Plus.
